On 18 July I flew to Lisboa and Francisco Goncalves drove me down the coast to the Baleal Surf Fest where I met for the first time Surfers for Cetaceans, a coalition of  West Coast US and Byron Bay surfers.

Baleal Surf Fest aimed at drawing the Portuguese surfing community’s attention to the degradation of the oceans and the killing of whales and dolphins around the world.   It was the first of its kind in the area and warmly received by the mayor and the locals.
