Global Ocean sponsored a meeting of scientific experts at Sidney’s home town of Paciano concerning the current impasse at the International Whaling Commission or IWC. Again the IWC is in crisis and there’s a deadlock about what to do.

For 45 years scientists led the way in whale conservation through the IWC, but today the scientists’ morale is low; and their opinions rarely called upon as the whalers and the Chairman set the scientific Agenda.

Despite 15 years of surveys, we don’t even have any estimates of how many Minke whales (the species now most hunted), there are.
